Engaging with Indigenous Research
Weyt-kp xwexwéytep.
(Hello Everyone in Secwepemctsin)
This website was created on the lands of the Secwépemc people by students of Thompson Rivers University which is situated in Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc.
These lands were never ceded and there was no agreement made where the Secwépemc people signed away their rights to this land.
Recognizing this is our responsibility as students on this land to move beyond a statement of land acknowledgement into something more tangible.
It is our collective responsibility to understand the culture, worldview, and way of learning that were traditionally done here for millennia before universities and colonial education institutions were created.
This website was designed as an introductory course to learn about Indigenous methods of inquiry and how they can be engaged with in a meaningful and reciprocal way.
In order to begin this journey with reciprocity and transparency, we would like to introduce the individuals behind the creation of this learning space:
Jeneen Herns-Jensen
Masters of Education Graduate Student. Norwegian, Shoshone, British & Algonquin. Mother to a Secwepemc Child.
